Shaun Of The Dead trailer review

Things I liked:
-The layout of the trailer. It was shown to us as a news article which showed jokes in it as well
-The narrative of the tele news reporter
-The news reporter telling everyone what to do and how to handle the zombies but showing the opposite which is what Shaun and friends did
-The funny backing music. Makes the trailer less scary and more funny

Things I didn't like :
-To short
-Didn't show the different range of jokes involved in the film
-Took 23 seconds for the main characters to appear in the trailer

Poster picture idea

For my poster adverstising my film and its trailer, I wanted a picture that tells the story of the plot. As my film is 3 unsociable rejects attempting to become cool at school, the location really needed to be shot in a classroom to represent learning and not the scoial side of school. I also chose to take the picture in a class room as it shows that these 3 are alone with nobody else around. They are doing some extra studying to hopefully get the point across that they are geeks. I wanted the mise en scene to have a white board clearly in the background as it sets the school enviroment and allows me to add the title of the film above their heads. As this is just an idea of a picture, I quickly wrote the film title on the board with a marker pen to get a ruff idea of how the picture would come out after being edited. If I were to use a picture like this, I would keep the thinking bubble and the title written inside of it, but instead of writing it on the board like the picture above, I will add some graffiti word art downloaded from 'WotDaFont' and place it onto the board using photoshop. I also think I will add some revision books onto the desks to help show their 'Geek' personality. It might also be worth looking at some of the clothes we are wearing. We're all wearing quite fashionable clothing here, so maybe some nerdy looking glasses and an odd hair style might make the image bolder. This picture was taken on my Blackberry phone which of course doesn't have a very strong camera on it. For my final picture, I will need to use a professional camera to help capture more quality in the image.

Evaluation on my Trailer Poll

A while ago, I produced a poll with lots of different questions on it about comedies and comedy trailers. I was going to close the poll at 30 responses but i've ended up with 36. I have got these responses from people I know on Facebook, and people I do not know off Twitter. I have over 1700 followers on Twitter and know about 100 of them from school. I was very pleased that a lot of teenagers around the United Kingdom did my poll as it gives my results more range and a more reliable source to what teenagers would like to watch.

I will take on board all of the most popular answers and will use them in my actual trailer. I will use all of the most popular answers as it's what my target audience prefers in trailers.

Here is the results of my poll:

Proformas (Time)

I'm making a proforma on the time of comedy film trailers to help me figure out the average length of them. This will help me decide how long mine should be.

Inbetweeners: 2:07
StepBrothers: 2:28
21 Jump Street: 2:33
Ted: 2:52
SuperBad: 2:31
Role Models: 2:25
Kick Ass: 2:35
Hallpass: 2:34
Horrible bosses: 2:23

Judging by the length of these trailers, most of them range from 2:20 to about 2:40 which is what I will aim my trailer to be.

Survey for Comedy Trailers

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/6TSS6KK

These are a few of my questions about comedy film trailers to help me decide what to do for my coursework. I will take all the most popular answers into consideration as obviously it's what my audience wants. I have posted it on my Twitter and Facebook account as everyone I have as friends or followers on there, average at an age of 17 which would be perfect as they're the right age for my target audience. I will post what answers averaged out as the best after I get 30 responses.

-Subtitles to narrate the film trailer
-Quick fast editing
-Most comedy trailers are 2:30 mins but this is 2:07 but a lot more is packed into the time

Things I disliked:
- Wasn't enough jokes to grab in the readers as they already have a set audience
-Was quite rude in use of language and had a lot of sexual references

Super Bad film trailer review

Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNpoTxeydiY

Thing I liked:
-The subtitles narrating the trailer
-The use of different comedy clips
- Sold the films comedy very well
-Could tell from the trailer who the target audience was
-The sound upbeat sound track in the background

The things I didn't like
-Lack of information about the film
-Doesn't sell the plot very well
-Was quite rude. Unsuitable for some viewers

Location

As my trailer is going to be about a gang of uncool guys trying to become cool, the key loaction will be at a school where you can immediatly tell who the popular people are, and who the rejects are. I will use my school, Marlwood for this. I am also thinking about a few park clips. If i do include these, I will use the Alveston park due to the size and space it offers.

List of actors for my Film Trailer

-Myself
-Ben Farrell
-Harry Tully
-Harriet Baber
-Scott Alden
-Alex Smith
-Aiden Woodman

The three actors playing the 3 geeky guys is Harry Tully, Alex Smith and I. I have chosen me and these 2 as we all do drama and we all have experiance in playing school kids attempting to fit in with other teenagers. We have got this experiance from GCSE and A-Level drama. The play that will help us adapt our role the most is Grease. We all performed Grease in year 12 where we all played kids at high school fitting in to modern society. Alex Smith played the role of Eugene who is also very geeky in this aswell, so he has the greatest experiance of the three of us and will help pass on tips to Harry and I to maximise the potential of our roles.

Scott Alden and Aiden Woodman is my younger brother and his best friend who are in year 10. Scott has had a lot of experiance in drama plays and out of school acting and so will be able to adapt to the role very quickly. These 2 have a small part at the start of the trailer, where the come onto the camera shot and beat the 3 nerds up for our dinner money. As they are both younger than us, and Aiden is almost half our size, it will be quite amusing to watch. This will helpkick my trailer off with a joke. Harriet Baber and Ben Farrell are the 2 cool kids that the 3 nerds want to be like and to become friendly with. Harriet Baber also does A-level drama and has done GCSE drama so has alot of experiance and knowledge of how to play a roll well.

The things I liked:
  • The use of colours for the titles and subtitles
  • The font of the titles and subtitles
  • The comdey music narrating the trailer
  • The quick cut aways
  • Its almost like a slideshow of hilarious clips also advertising who is in the film and what it's all about
The things I disliked:
  • Took a long time to get into the trailer; needed to start with a funny one line comment
  • Wasn't enough information about the film
The things I have learnt and will consider using after watching this trailer
  • It took around 2:30 minutes
  • The narration was subtitles and clips from the film
  • The comedy music in the background

Ideas

For my coursework this year, I have chosen to make a film trailer as my main task, and a poster and a front cover of a magazine to help support it. At the moment, I would like to make a comedy trailer as not many people pick the genre so it will help mine stand out from the rest. Most people love a comedy, so if I can put my ideas into the trailer, hopefully it will turn out to be really good!

I have started looking around at other comedy trailers to see how long they last and what they involve. I will be uploading them onto my blog soon with an analysis of what I like and dislike.
